The 2. Bundesliga starts up again on Friday and despite it not really being available anymore to U.K viewers from last season, it should still be accessible to, well, anyone interested in Football.

In the 2021/2022 season-the first season without the Monday night game (which used to be on BT Sports in the UK when they had the rights)- it gained a reputation. Mainly because two big Bundesliga clubs, Schalke 04 and Werder Bremen had dropped into the second tier. That along with the likes of Hamburg, Düsseldorf and Hannover 96 still in there, meant the reputation of this league was a lot bigger than usual. But it was the unpredictability that really sold it. After 26 game weeks, Darmstadt 98 was on top of the table, with the same amount of points as St. Pauli and Bremen, but more amazingly only seven points were between first place and seventh. St Pauli were on top of the table after the halfway point.

However, anyone with a little bit of experience in the 2. Bundesliga knows that what takes place in the middle of the season hardly ever matters. The last five teams in first place in the last six seasons at the middle of the season have failed
